Product Description
Designed for the serious runner, the lightweight New Balance® men's 5-in Tempo Short features a built-in brief liner for mile after mile of cool comfort. Side pockets provide convenient storage, and an inside key pocket provides a secure place for small items. An elastic waistband with an inside drawcord creates an adjustable fit, and a reflective logo at the bottom left hem increases visibility for running on the road.

4 out of 5 stars Comfortable and Affordable   March 2, 2010

I run one marathon and several half-marathons each year, so I put in a fair number of training miles. I've worn these shorts a half-dozen times on run distances ranging from 3 to 10 miles. They fit well (i.e., are accurately sized) and are the softest and most comfortable shorts I own. The two side pockets are large and sturdy. The fabrics (inner lining and outer shell) wick nicely. After 6 washings, no sign of wear. One of the best values I've found - priced 20 - 30% lower than comparable competitors. The missing star? I wish these had a zippered back pocket for keys, ID, etc. I knew they didn't when I bought them, but a rear pocket would make very good running shorts even better.

4 out of 5 stars Good Buy   February 28, 2010

I had to order these because amazon doesn't ship Adidas products to Canada. I am happy with the shorts, worked out in them for about 2 weeks now. The pockets are nice but its my fault I have a hundred keys so they jab me when I run on the treadmill. They dry incredibly fast. Draw string is a little annoying, they come crossed, so if you do a bow its annoying to undo, but this can be fixed by just uncrossing the draw sting in the liner.

Other than that small fix-able issue, they are good shorts. Size was as advertised.

2 out of 5 stars Restrictive, not good for multiple workouts   July 4, 2009

I usually run in Nike DriFit 5" shorts, which after 5 years, were starting to get run down. I bought these since new balance is a reputable brand, and I thought the pockets would be nice for weight training. These shorts are good at keeping you dry, and I like the reflective new balance for night training. However, I will not be buying these again for the follwing reasons: 1) If you're working out twice a day, these will stink for your second session; never had that problem with DriFit. 2) The fit is tighter around the thighs, enough to feel restrictive while running/squatting.

I wouldn't recommend these to those with larger thighs than normal, nor to those who train more than once a day.

4 out of 5 stars Nice general use shorts.   May 25, 2009

I bought these short for running and walking. If you're a marathoner, you probably won't like these, because of the 5" inseam. A 3" or 4" inseam is better for serious running. But if you're like I am, and only run a couple or three miles at a time, and perhaps do some walking as well, you'll really like these. They look good and feel good and I really like the side pockets. Fit was perfect: I ordered medium and got what I expected. $28 is about what I've paid for similar shorts at running shops.

5 out of 5 stars Lighting dry is right   March 21, 2009

I have worked out in these shorts for about a month now. I can't find any fault with them at all. About half the time my routines are done at the gym so the pockets come in real handy for keeping track of the locker key without digging into the small key pocket inside the short. (Sorry about that visual.)
I do mostly cardio on treadmills and ellipticals so the sweat can really start flowing. These shorts dry up in no time. Their moisture wicking properties are incredible. That includes the liner and the short!
The fit is a tad more relaxed than what I expected and prefer, but they don't look too big like they'd whip me to death in a strong wind. Besides it's better than being too tight. I would recommend these shorts to anyone looking for a good training short with side pockets.
